The Libertines erano un gruppo musicale rock inglese creato nel 1997 a Londra e attivo fino al 2005.

La band nasce dall'incontro tra Pete Doherty e Carl Barât.Nel 2004 esce il secondo album (The Libertines), che viene ancora giudicato ottimo dalla critica di settore. Il gruppo gode di molto consenso in Inghilterra, ma dopo l'uscita dell'album Doherty lascia definitivamente la band. La band si scioglie ufficialmente nel 2005. Carl Barât formerà i Dirty Pretty Things, mentre Pete Doherty diventerà il leader dei Babyshambles.
